And very early in the morning to one of the Sabbaths they come upon the Tomb ...The word pro-ee' means "1) early in the morning, 2) approximately the fourth watch of the night, from 3 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock." Jesus may have risen inside the tomb at 3am, thirty-six hours after he died. Since this sabbath occurred by the spring equinox when day and night are equal this satisfies the prophecy that he would rise after three days. The previous chapter showed how Jesus was probably entombed at 4pm. If the great stone was rolled away at the tenth hour of the night the time would be 4am which means Jesus would have been entombed for 36 hours or three days. If Jesus left the tomb at sunrise his entombment during the night would be exactly 24 hours which is equal to two nights.
